After 32-Month Wait, Liverpool Loanee Scores Again – With Thiago Spectating at Wigan

Over the weekend, several Liverpool loanees were in action, with Kaide Gordon providing one of the standout moments.

The 20-year-old winger, on loan at Norwich, made a memorable appearance as he came off the bench to score in their 4-0 victory over Hull. This was Gordon’s first senior goal since January 2022, when he scored for Liverpool against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup. After spending over 18 months sidelined with adolescent musculoskeletal issues, his return to scoring marked a significant step in his comeback.

In another Championship match, Ben Doak featured for 65 minutes for Middlesbrough, though they were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Watford. Meanwhile, fellow Liverpool loanee Lewis Koumas had a quieter afternoon, playing under an hour in Stoke City’s goalless draw against Swansea.

Nat Phillips made a late appearance for Derby County in their 2-0 win over QPR, coming on in the final stages to help secure the victory. However, Owen Beck, who would normally feature in the Championship, was serving a suspension and instead played for Blackburn U21s in a 3-2 win over Leicester U21s, earning praise for his standout performance.

In League One, Luke Chambers travelled with Wigan as they drew 0-0 against Stockport, while Calvin Ramsay missed out on the game. Interestingly, former Liverpool midfielder Thiago was in attendance at the match as a guest in the boardroom.

Dropping down to League Two, Rhys Williams made his seventh start in eight matches for Morecambe, though they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Accrington Stanley.

On the international front, Giorgi Mamardashvili played for Valencia, securing his third clean sheet in four games during their 0-0 draw with Leganes in Madrid.

Unfortunately, not all Liverpool loanees had a positive weekend. Bajcetic started for Red Bull Salzburg but endured a heavy 5-0 defeat to Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Despite mixed results, it was Gordon’s goal for Norwich that captured the headlines, as he continues his journey back to full fitness and form.
