Alexis Mac Allister recently shared insights into the tactical adjustments Arne Slot is integrating into Liverpool’s style of play.
Reflecting on their 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the opening game of the 2024-25 Premier League season, Mac Allister expressed optimism about the team’s direction under the new head coach.
Speaking to Viaplay, the midfielder highlighted the subtle changes Slot has brought to the squad, focusing on positional discipline. “This manager emphasizes staying in position more, which introduces a slightly different structure,” Mac Allister noted. “But the core principles remain unchanged. Defensively, it’s crucial to give everything—we know the last couple of steps can make all the difference.”
Liverpool’s second-half display at Portman Road, marked by goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah, showcased the team’s quality and intensity. Slot credited their improved performance to winning more duels and capitalizing on the spaces behind Ipswich’s defense.
Mac Allister echoed this sentiment, explaining, “The key was the final step in our pressing. In the first half, we weren’t at full intensity, but in the second half, we demonstrated the level this team can reach. We’re really pleased with how we played after the break.”
He also acknowledged the challenge posed by Ipswich, who were eager to make their mark on their Premier League return. “It was a tough match at a difficult venue, and you could see how motivated they were,” he added. “They played well, but ultimately, securing the three points was what mattered most.”
This win sets a positive tone for Liverpool’s campaign, with Mac Allister confident that Slot’s tactical adjustments will help the team improve throughout the season.
