Alisson Concedes “Poor Quality” in Defeat – “Unnecessary” Loss of 3 Points

Liverpool’s return from the international break was far from what they had hoped for, with Alisson admitting the team lacked quality in both attack and defense.

Arne Slot’s early tenure at Liverpool had shown plenty of promise, but the defeat against Nottingham Forest offered a harsh reality check. Several key players had played the full 90 minutes for their national teams, and the fatigue was evident as they struggled to connect on the pitch.

The team’s momentum from before the break seemed to have vanished, and Forest capitalized on Liverpool’s disjointed performance. Callum Hudson-Odoi’s goal, which slipped past a screened Alisson, felt inevitable given Liverpool’s sloppy play.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Alisson reflected on the loss, acknowledging that dropping points at Anfield was disappointing but that the team had only themselves to blame.

“It’s frustrating,” Alisson said. “Losing points at home is always a blow, but Forest came with a plan to defend deep and play long balls. We made it too easy for them when they scored, and defensively, we weren’t up to the mark.”

He also pointed out the lack of sharpness in the final third. “We didn’t create much. Our quality was lacking today, and we needed more energy. This is a game where we gave away three points that were there for the taking,” he added.

Liverpool dominated possession and the stats sheet, but failed to make it count where it mattered – on the scoreboard. Forest, to their credit, defended resolutely, blocking Liverpool’s efforts and putting bodies on the line.

It wasn’t a performance to remember for Liverpool, but with the Champions League looming on Tuesday, the team will have to move on quickly and rediscover their form.
