Andy Robertson has rejoined training after dealing with injury problems that have prevented him from participating in Liverpool’s pre-season matches so far.
The left-back was recently spotted moving comfortably in training sessions as Arne Slot’s squad prepared for two upcoming friendlies at Anfield scheduled for Sunday.
Robertson has experienced a disrupted pre-season, travelling with the squad to the United States despite being unable to play in any of the Reds’ friendlies. Slot explained that this was due to a “minor injury” Robertson carried into the Euros, which required recovery time afterwards.
Instead of featuring in pre-season matches, the 30-year-old focused on his rehabilitation, having logged nearly 400 minutes for Scotland this summer, including playing the full 90 minutes in all of their Euro 2024 qualifiers in Germany.
Fortunately, Robertson is now back in training and seems to have regained his usual energy ahead of the new season.
During the U.S. tour, when questioned about the Specific injury, Slot opted not to elaborate, referring to it only as a “medical issue.”
A Full Squad
Unlike some of Liverpool’s rivals, such as Manchester United, the Reds currently have a clean bill of health, with all key players back in training.
Notably, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Alexis Mac Allister have yet to feature in any pre-season friendlies due to their international commitments, but they are expected to return to action on Sunday.
With two matches scheduled on the same day—one against Sevilla and the other against Las Palmas—Slot is likely to rotate his squad extensively, as no further official friendlies are planned before the Premier League opener against Ipswich.
The Sevilla match is set to kick off at 12:30 pm (BST) and will conclude a couple of hours before the Las Palmas game starts. Therefore, it’s unlikely any player will participate in both matches.
Instead, each player is expected to receive substantial playing time in their respective games, contrasting with the shorter appearances during the U.S. tour.
The game against Sevilla will be the first opportunity for local fans to see Slot in person and, for those who didn’t catch the late-night friendlies, a chance to observe his revamped system in action.
