Anfield Welcomes Southport Families as Liverpool FC and Owners Offer Support

Liverpool FC recently paid tribute to the victims of a tragic attack in Southport, a town in the Liverpool City Region, before a pre-season friendly against Sevilla.

The horrific incident claimed the lives of two young girls, seven-year-old Elsie and nine-year-old Alice, during a children’s dance class. Six-year-old Bebe King also succumbed to her injuries from the attack.

In a heartfelt gesture, Liverpool observed a moment of silence before the match to honor the memory of these young victims. Linda Pizzuti Henry, the wife of Liverpool’s principal owner John Henry and a shareholder in Fenway Sports Group (FSG), expressed her admiration for the families affected by this tragedy. She wrote about how deeply moved she was by the strength and love these families have displayed in the face of unimaginable grief.

One of the families shared that their daughter, who was killed in the attack, had never known evil. They are now channeling their sorrow into efforts to improve their seaside community, with plans to create a special garden in her memory. Linda Henry praised the broader community and the country for coming together to support these families during such a difficult time.

Photos of Linda Henry, John Henry, and Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan with the families of Alice da Silva Aguiar and Elsie Dot Stancombe were shared as part of this tribute. The day after the stabbings, former Liverpool players Robbie Fowler and Phil Thompson laid a wreath near Hart Space Studio, the location of the attack, to show the club’s support and offer condolences.

Many of the children injured in the attack were treated at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, where Liverpool players make an annual Christmas visit. In connection with the attack, 18-year-old Axel Rudakubana has been charged with three counts of murder, ten counts of attempted murder, and possession of a bladed article. The suspect, originally from Cardiff but later residing in Banks, Lancashire, recently turned 18.
