Barcelona Joins Bajcetic Pursuit Late, Reportedly Makes Major Bid

Barcelona has made a surprise loan offer for Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, according to Fabrizio Romano.

This unexpected move comes after an injury to Marc Bernal, prompting the Spanish giants to try and secure the 19-year-old’s services.

Bajcetic, who has also attracted interest from Austrian club RB Salzburg, finds himself at a crossroads. Salzburg, managed by former Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders, made their loan offer earlier in the week. However, Barcelona’s late bid has added a twist to the story as they hope to beat Salzburg to Bajcetic’s signature.

The young Spain under-21 international joined Liverpool’s academy in 2021 from Celta Vigo and has since made 22 appearances for the senior team. Last season, however, he was sidelined for over six months due to a calf injury, limiting his involvement to just three matches. With a need to gain more regular playing time, Bajcetic is seen as a candidate for a loan move, despite Liverpool’s lack of depth in midfield.

Romano revealed on X.com that Barcelona’s offer is a straight loan deal worth €4 million, with no option to buy. This move comes as the two clubs engage in negotiations, considering what would be best for Bajcetic’s development. While Barcelona would be a prestigious destination, Liverpool might prefer to send him where he can secure more consistent minutes, something that might be easier at Salzburg.

With three years remaining on his contract at Liverpool, a loan spell, whether to Barcelona or Salzburg, would provide Bajcetic valuable experience, likely returning to Liverpool as an improved player.
