Liverpool have turned down a bid for Caoimhin Kelleher, amid ongoing transfer speculation surrounding the 25-year-old goalkeeper.
Kelleher had a standout 2023/24 season at Anfield, starting in 26 matches, which has fueled talk of him potentially securing a No. 1 spot in the future.
Although Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili during the transfer window, who has since returned to Valencia, the club’s decision suggests they view Kelleher as a key part of their succession plan for Alisson. Nottingham Forest, long-time admirers of Kelleher, recently made an offer, but it was rejected by Liverpool.
According to Paul Joyce of The Times, the bid was “well below Liverpool’s valuation.” While the club isn’t actively looking to offload the Irishman, their stance could change if Forest were to present a more attractive offer.
James Pearce of The Athletic further reported that Forest’s proposal included a swap deal involving their American goalkeeper, Matt Turner, moving to Anfield. However, with just a day remaining in the transfer window, Kelleher remains a Liverpool player unless a new deal emerges.
Forest has already bolstered their goalkeeping options this summer by signing Carlos Miguel from Corinthians for £3.4 million. Despite this, their pursuit of Kelleher continues, even though Liverpool had previously rejected a £15 million bid from Forest in January, valuing him closer to £35 million. Interest in Kelleher from other clubs like Celtic, Brighton, and Brentford has cooled as those teams have moved on to other targets.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, it remains to be seen if any further developments will occur. Meanwhile, Liverpool is expected to finalize several loan moves for their younger players, with Stefan Bajcetic reportedly close to joining Pep Lijnders’ Salzburg on a temporary basis. Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon are also likely to secure loan deals for the 2024/25 season.
In terms of incoming transfers, Liverpool recently announced the signing of Federico Chiesa on a four-year contract. The Italian winger has already expressed his excitement about the move, much to the delight of Liverpool fans.
