Liverpool has recently been rumoured to have an interest in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush, but fresh reports suggest a different reality.
While initial stories from Germany claimed that Liverpool had formally expressed interest in Marmoush, newer updates from Merseyside sources tell a different story.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool has reportedly “refuted” the claim of interest in Marmoush, clarifying that the Egyptian forward is “not of any interest to the club at this time.” This response contrasts sharply with a report from BILD earlier this week, which suggested that Liverpool had contacted Marmoush’s representatives and viewed him as a possible summer transfer target.
Who Is Omar Marmoush?
Omar Marmoush might not yet be a household name, but his impressive performances this season are quickly drawing attention. At 25, the Egyptian forward has been a standout player in the Bundesliga, making a significant impact for Frankfurt. So far, he’s registered 16 goal contributions in just nine league matches—an incredible achievement by any standard. In Frankfurt’s recent 7-2 victory over Bochum, Marmoush scored a goal and added two assists, contributing directly to three goals in a single game.
With this feat, Marmoush also set a new record at Frankfurt, becoming the first player in the club’s history to score 10 goals in the opening nine matches of a Bundesliga season. This accomplishment broke a long-standing record held by former Leeds United forward Tony Yeboah, who scored nine times in Frankfurt’s first nine games in a previous season. Marmoush’s explosive start to the season highlights his talent and growing potential, and his record-breaking performances suggest that he’s just getting started.
Could Marmoush Be a Replacement for Mohamed Salah?
While Marmoush’s skills and statistics have made him a player to watch, it’s clear that Liverpool currently has little interest in pursuing him as a signing. For some Liverpool fans, this might come as a disappointment, especially as they look for a potential future replacement for Mohamed Salah. Yet, several factors explain why Marmoush may not be a priority for Liverpool right now.
Firstly, Marmoush has primarily played as a center forward or on the left wing this season. Liverpool already has a solid selection of players in those areas. Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez offer strong options for the central forward role, while Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo provide depth on the left flank. With such established players in these positions, the need for another forward is less pressing.
However, if Marmoush were to transition into a right-wing role, similar to his fellow Egyptian Mohamed Salah, the club might view him differently. Salah, now 32, is a Liverpool icon, but his future remains a subject of speculation, especially with recent offers and interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League. If Liverpool anticipates a future without Salah, finding a successor would be a priority, and Marmoush’s talent and age could potentially make him a candidate—though not for the immediate future.
Liverpool’s Transfer Priorities
Currently, Liverpool has other pressing needs that may take priority in upcoming transfer windows. For instance, recent injuries in the squad, like Ibrahima Konate’s arm injury against Brighton, highlight Liverpool’s need for better depth at center-back. With a demanding schedule across domestic and international competitions, adding another quality defender could be crucial for the team’s stability.
Liverpool may look to strengthen its midfield with a defensive-minded player who can bring more balance to the squad. While Liverpool has numerous options in midfield, a specialist No. 6 could provide the defensive solidity that manager Jurgen Klopp occasionally needs, especially in high-stakes games. This would allow Liverpool’s more creative midfielders to operate with greater freedom.
While Omar Marmoush is making waves in the Bundesliga with a remarkable goal-scoring record, Liverpool’s interest in him appears to be nonexistent for now. The club’s forward positions, particularly on the left and center, are well-covered, and a shift to a right-sided role, like Salah’s, would be required for Marmoush to be considered as a direct heir.
At the moment, Liverpool’s focus is likely to remain on addressing depth in their defence and potentially bolstering the midfield with a defensive player, especially as they prepare for a challenging season. As things stand, unless there are changes in the current squad—such as departures or unexpected injuries—the prospect of Liverpool pursuing Marmoush seems slim. However, if the situation evolves, Marmoush’s name could resurface as Liverpool reshapes its plans for the future.
