Cody Gakpo scored his first two goals of the season to seal Liverpool’s comeback victory over West Ham in the Carabao Cup.
The Reds initially found themselves trailing after a Jarell Quansah own goal. However, Diogo Jota’s brace and a strike from Mohamed Salah turned the game around, putting Liverpool in control heading into the closing stages.
Gakpo added a fourth goal in the 90th minute, blasting a shot past Lukasz Fabianski at the near post. His clinical finish gave the Dutch forward his first goal of the campaign, but he wasn’t finished yet.
Just three minutes later, Gakpo struck again. This time, his shot took a slight deflection off Lucas Paquetá, finding the back of the net to round off an impressive 5-1 win. West Ham’s efforts faded after Edson Álvarez received a red card, leaving Liverpool to cruise through the final minutes.
Gakpo’s late double not only secured the Reds’ dominance but also ended West Ham’s hopes of a comeback, sealing a comprehensive victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
