Harvey Elliott has endured a tough start to life under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, with a fractured foot now set to sideline the 21-year-old for several weeks.
Having featured for just seven minutes this season, Elliott had hoped to gain some valuable match time during the international break with England’s U21 squad.
Unfortunately, his time with the Young Lions was cut short after experiencing discomfort during training, leading to his early return for further medical evaluation. According to The Times, Elliott is expected to be out until late October, a setback that will hinder his efforts to secure a place in Liverpool’s starting lineup.
The injury comes at a particularly frustrating time, as Liverpool faces a packed schedule with seven games across three competitions starting from this Saturday. With the likelihood of squad rotation, Elliott could have had the chance to make an impact. However, his injury now rules him out of contention for those matches, as well as for a potential senior England call-up under manager Lee Carsley, who had recently praised Elliott as one of the most promising young players coming through the ranks.
Though this injury is a significant blow to his ambitions, there remains hope that Elliott’s eventual return will still allow him to make his mark later in the season.
On a more positive note for Liverpool, Curtis Jones has resumed full training after missing the last two matches. Additionally, Alexis Mac Allister played just 26 minutes for Argentina during the break, which should ease any concerns about his fitness. Federico Chiesa also used the international break to get back up to speed and will be an option for Liverpool across the front line and in the No. 10 position.
While Elliott’s injury is a setback, the return of key players like Jones and Chiesa provides some optimism for the Reds as they navigate a busy upcoming period.
