Rodrygo’s Future at Real Madrid: A Blend of Commitment and Possibility Amid Liverpool Speculation

Brazilian sensation Rodrygo has reaffirmed his commitment to Real Madrid, though he remains open to future possibilities amid ongoing speculation linking him to Liverpool. The 23-year-old forward has been in sensational form this season, racking up 17 goals and nine assists across 50 matches in all competitions.

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, Rodrygo expressed his pride in donning the iconic white jersey of Los Blancos. Speaking via Madrid Zone, he said, “Stay at Real Madrid forever? Yes, well, anything can happen. I have a contract but the years I’ve spent here, it’s been a pleasure. I always want to stay at this club but let’s see.”

Since his €45 million move from Santos in July 2019, Rodrygo has become an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. This season, he has been instrumental in their La Liga triumph, Supercopa de Espana victory, and now, the pursuit of a record 15th European title. However, with Kylian Mbappe’s anticipated arrival this summer, questions loom over Rodrygo’s game time next season as Ancelotti navigates his star-studded lineup, including Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Rodrygo is no secret, with the Reds reportedly having a €120 million bid turned down. Rodrygo’s contract with Real Madrid still has four years remaining, underscoring his value to the club.

Reflecting on his career decisions, Rodrygo revealed last month that he had been close to joining Liverpool while at Santos but ultimately chose Real Madrid. He shared with GOAL, “We didn’t close the deal because I didn’t want to. I wanted to stay at Santos even though the offer was very good…Everything was very good, but my desire spoke louder. I wanted to stay at Santos and make a bit of history at the club. And that’s what happened: I was able to fulfil my dream of playing for Santos. But it’s true, I almost went to Liverpool.”

Rodrygo’s stint with Santos saw him make 80 appearances, netting 17 goals and eight assists. His move to Madrid has been nothing short of triumphant, amassing 10 major trophies, including the Champions League and three La Liga titles.

Liverpool, known for their roster of world-class wingers like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, undoubtedly saw Rodrygo as a thrilling prospect for Jurgen Klopp’s attacking lineup. However, Rodrygo’s dream of playing for Real Madrid ultimately prevailed, shaping his impressive career in the Spanish capital.
