Journalist reports “intense talks” set to start over Mo Salah’s contract

Mohamed Salah‘s impressive performance on Saturday, securing his 10th goal and 10th assist of the season, has sparked fresh speculation about his future.

With the international break approaching, attention is now shifting to potential contract talks. Salah, however, will not be participating in Egypt’s upcoming matches against Cape Verde and Botswana. Concerns about the quality of artificial pitches, which increase the risk of injury, led to his exclusion from the squad.

This break gives Salah a much-needed rest, which could be beneficial for both him and Liverpool. The team has a challenging schedule ahead, with matches against Real Madrid and Manchester City scheduled soon after the break. For Liverpool, having Salah recover and recharge is a positive sign heading into this busy period.

According to Arabic journalist Ismael Mahmoud, this international break could be a key moment for serious contract renewal negotiations. Mahmoud shared on social media that he has been informed that Salah’s time away from international duty will be crucial for starting talks on a new deal. It is believed that Salah is seeking a two-year extension to his current contract, which is set to expire at the end of this season. If these reports are true, a new contract would keep Salah at Liverpool until 2027, by which time he would be 35 years old.

While these claims should be treated with caution, Mahmoud is a credible reporter with close ties to Egyptian sources. Salah’s current form, especially at 32 years old, has been remarkable. He has already registered 75 assists in the Premier League and is on track to become only the third player in history to reach 100 goals and 100 assists in the competition, following in the footsteps of Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney.

During the international break, Salah is likely to visit Dubai, where his agent, Ramy Abbas, resides. This is where Salah’s previous contract negotiations took place, and it’s expected that discussions about a new deal could also unfold there.

Salah’s last contract renewal in 2022 made him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history, with a reported weekly salary of £350,000. Despite these riches, Salah has expressed his desire to remain at Liverpool. This was evident in a recent cryptic social media post where he stated, “All teams win matches, but there’s only one champion in the end. That’s what we want.”

Analysts, including football commentator Lynch, believe Salah’s strong attachment to Liverpool plays a key role in his future. Lynch suggests that Salah, who is eager to continue climbing the Premier League top scorer list and cement his legacy at Liverpool, would not insist on unreasonable demands. If negotiations reach a point of compromise, it could be a positive development for both parties.

Salah’s willingness to stay and his proven commitment to the team point to the possibility of a fruitful agreement. With the club and player both invested in maintaining this relationship, the upcoming weeks could prove crucial in securing his long-term future at Anfield.
