In an alternate reality, Kylian Mbappe dons Liverpool’s iconic red jersey, scoring goals effortlessly. He’s on the verge of surpassing Mo Salah’s goal record for the Reds and is ambitiously aiming to break Ian Rush’s all-time record of 346 goals in all competitions.
In reality, however, Liverpool never had a genuine chance to secure the French World Cup winner, with PSG and now Real Madrid offering financial packages that Liverpool couldn’t match.
But there was a time when this didn’t seem so far-fetched, especially for Liverpool’s top brass.
Consider that phone call with John W. Henry…
In 2017, reports indicated that Mbappe engaged in a two-hour meeting with Liverpool’s principal owner, John W. Henry, aboard his private jet (Daily Star). This was part of Henry’s strategy to win over the young striker by personally discussing his future with him and his family.
Unfortunately, the meeting didn’t produce the desired outcome, and Mbappe eventually chose PSG over a move to Merseyside.

Liverpool fans can’t be too disappointed
It’s important to remember that Liverpool once had one of the most feared attacking trios in world football with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mo Salah.
As exceptional as Kylian Mbappe is, Liverpool thrived with a blend of talent that worked harmoniously together on the field.
While a union between Liverpool and the Ballon d’Or contender wasn’t destined to be, Anfield will continue to see new heroes rise and captivate the fans’ hearts and imaginations.
