Liverpool Adjusts Ticket Sale Process Following Cyber Attack, Fans Unimpressed

Liverpool FC had to halt their biannual members’ ticket sales due to a “sophisticated” cyber attack. The club has now provided an update that may not sit well with fans.

Many fans know that buying tickets through Liverpool’s website can be a challenging process. Last week, the club apologized for canceling the members’ ticket sale, explaining it was due to a “sustained, sophisticated ‘bot’ attack.” Liverpool acknowledged this was “wholly unacceptable” and vowed to collaborate with fan groups to enhance the ticketing system.

The club postponed all ticket sales and recently announced, based on advice from their ticketing provider SeatGeek, that the sale will occur in two stages. The first stage will offer home tickets for matches against Brentford, Nottingham Forest, and Bournemouth. The remaining six Anfield matches in 2024 will be available for purchase at a later date.

While this approach may reduce the risk of another cyber attack, it is not particularly convenient for fans, many of whom have criticized it on social media. Fans often need to take time off work to participate in these sales and have other commitments besides waiting for hours to buy tickets.

Breaking the sale into two stages means double the stress for fans. The hope is that the process runs smoothly and fans can purchase tickets quickly without issues.

Fans eligible for the second sale will be notified via email about the new sale date. In an email to supporters, the club apologized again for the inconvenience caused by the postponed sale.

Anfield will operate at full capacity from the 2024/25 season, and Liverpool’s CEO Billy Hogan has confirmed there are “no plans to continue expansion.”
