Liverpool Advised to Target Premier League Standout as Salah’s Future Heir

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has suggested that Liverpool should consider Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The Reds faced a surprising 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, their first under manager Arne Slot. While Salah couldn’t prevent the loss, his future at the club remains uncertain.

Liverpool successfully retained Salah during the summer despite significant interest from the Saudi Pro League, which isn’t expected to disappear anytime soon. Alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Salah’s contract expires next summer. There have been reports indicating that Liverpool might soon enter negotiations with the Egyptian forward to extend his stay.

However, the club is well aware that Salah’s departure is likely to happen sooner rather than later. It’s probable that Liverpool has already begun planning for his eventual exit, evaluating possible replacements. While they could look overseas, targeting players like Juventus’ Federico Chiesa, Cascarino believes Liverpool should explore options within the Premier League.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino highlighted Mbuemo as an ideal candidate. “I’ve said before that if Mo Salah leaves, Mbuemo would be the one I’d go for,” Cascarino remarked. “He’s a complete player—he scores goals, he’s incredibly durable, and he’s a constant threat on the field.”

Mbuemo, who has been with Brentford since 2019 following a move from French club Troyes, is valued at around £35 million. The 25-year-old forward has proven his ability, recording 53 goals and 42 assists in 204 appearances for Brentford. A key player for the Bees, he could draw attention from larger clubs looking for a versatile and hard-working attacker.

With his contract running until 2026, Mbuemo will soon face a decision on whether to extend his time at Brentford or seek new challenges elsewhere. Given his performances, it’s likely that Liverpool won’t be the only club eyeing him as a potential signing next summer.
