Liverpool have enjoyed an impressive start to the season, but their transfer activity has been surprisingly quiet.
As of now, the Reds have yet to secure a single signing in the summer window. With just four days left before the transfer deadline on Friday night, reports suggest that manager Arne Slot is eyeing a late move for a key midfielder.
Earlier in the window, Liverpool were close to securing a deal for Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad. However, the Spanish playmaker chose to stay with his boyhood club, ending any hopes of him joining the Premier League side.
Now, with time running out, Liverpool have shifted their attention to Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners, according to a report from Fichajes. The 26-year-old midfielder is also a target for Juventus, and a move to the Allianz Stadium seemed imminent. However, Liverpool, with their stronger financial position, may be in a better position to meet Atalanta’s £51 million valuation and could potentially hijack the deal.
The report states, “Liverpool are seriously considering a last-minute move to sign Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in a bid to bolster their midfield before the transfer window closes.”
Atalanta may prefer to sell to Liverpool rather than a direct Serie A rival like Juventus, increasing the chances of the deal happening. During his three seasons at Atalanta, Koopmeiners has been a key player, scoring 29 goals and providing 15 assists in 129 appearances. The 27-year-old was also a part of the team that knocked Bayer Leverkusen out of the Europa League last season.
With just days left in the transfer window, it remains to be seen if Liverpool can secure Koopmeiners as a late addition to their squad.
