Liverpool Defender Seeks Departure Amid Interest from Top Champions League Team

Sepp van den Berg has reportedly asked Liverpool to lower their asking price to facilitate his departure this summer. PSV Eindhoven has shown interest in signing the Dutch defender but is unwilling to meet Liverpool’s €20 million valuation.

Van den Berg, who spent last season on loan at Mainz, has publicly stated his desire to leave Anfield. With limited prospects for regular first-team football at Liverpool next season, he is keen to move on. Liverpool’s current central defensive options—Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah—leave Van den Berg low in the pecking order.

PSV’s interest has made Van den Berg eager to return to the Netherlands, but Liverpool’s high asking price is a hurdle. With only two years left on his contract, the defender and his representatives are pressing Liverpool to reconsider their valuation.

Since joining Liverpool, Van den Berg has mostly been on loan and has struggled to break into the first team. His desire for more playing time aligns with PSV’s interest, making a transfer seem mutually beneficial.

Liverpool is also looking to strengthen their defense, with Lille’s Leny Yoro being a potential target. This move could further limit Van den Berg’s opportunities, making his departure more likely.

As Liverpool prepares for the new season under a new manager, generating funds from Van den Berg’s sale could support their transfer plans, particularly in midfield and defense.
