Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah of Liverpool are anticipated to miss out on England’s final squad for Euro 2024. Manager Gareth Southgate needs to trim his preliminary squad by seven players to finalize his 26-man roster, set to be announced on Saturday. Tottenham’s James Maddison was already cut earlier this week, indicating the start of these difficult decisions.

Recent reports suggest that Southgate has notified Jones that he won’t be included in the final squad. Additionally, center-back Quansah is likely to be excluded, leaving Southgate with four more cuts to make before the deadline.

Despite these omissions, Liverpool will still be represented in the England squad. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s inclusion appears secure, while Joe Gomez remains in contention. Gomez, who played towards the end of England’s 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, hopes to earn more playing time in Friday’s friendly against Iceland, after which Southgate will finalize his squad.

Commenting on the situation, Southgate said, “We saw enough throughout the season to be excited about what he [Jones] might bring to the group.”

Regarding Quansah, Southgate added, “Jarell had an excellent season with Liverpool. His selection for key games by Jurgen Klopp shows how highly he was regarded. Transitioning from a loan spell to the Premier League this season, he demonstrated great attributes as a center-back. We’re eager to see him develop further, alongside players like Jarrad Branthwaite.”
