Liverpool is heading to the United States as part of their pre-season preparations, with new manager Arne Slot selecting a 28-man squad for the tour. Over the next two weeks, the team will compete in several matches starting in Pittsburgh against Real Betis from La Liga. Following this, they will face Premier League rivals Arsenal in Philadelphia and Manchester United in South Carolina within four days.
The squad traveling to the US includes Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Kostas Tsimikas, Andy Robertson, Fabio Carvalho, Stefan Bajcetic, Callum Chambers, Marcelo Pitaluga, Nat Phillips, Kaide Gordon, Ben Doak, James McConnell, Viteslav Jaros, Caoimhin Kelleher, Owen Beck, Amara Nallo, Lewis Koumas, Sepp van den Berg, Jarell Quansah, Tyler Morton, Conor Bradley, Harvey Blair, Luca Stephenson, Trey Nyoni, and Harvey Davies.
According to James Pearce, Liverpool’s Jayden Danns and Bobby Clark are not part of the squad due to fitness issues. Danns is dealing with back discomfort, while Clark is continuing his rehabilitation.
Additionally, several key players who participated in international tournaments this summer are still on their breaks. These include Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, Alexis Mac Allister, Diogo Jota, Ryan Gravenberch, Alisson, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz.
Arne Slot’s pre-season preparations for Liverpool have been less than ideal. As a new manager, Slot needs this period to instill his ideas and strategies into the squad. However, due to the extended breaks of several key players following Euro 2024 and Copa America, he will be without many of his main stars for most of the pre-season.
Liverpool’s final pre-season match is scheduled against Sevilla at Anfield, a week before the new season starts. This will be the only game where Slot will have his complete squad available. The impact of these disrupted preparations on Liverpool’s 2024/25 campaign remains uncertain, but it is likely to pose some challenges as the season begins.
