Liverpool Eyeing €30m-Plus Bid for Towering 197cm Goalkeeper

Liverpool are reportedly considering a significant move to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, with a potential fee exceeding €30 million, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Reds have had a quiet summer in the transfer market so far, with no signings yet made, despite previously holding discussions with Real Sociedad over midfielder Martin Zubimendi. However, Zubimendi has opted to stay in Spain, leaving Liverpool to explore other options.

Although Liverpool’s squad remains strong, especially after being title contenders until the final stages of last season, it was expected that they would bring in a few reinforcements during the summer window. With around three weeks left before the transfer window closes, there’s still time for the club to make key additions as they prepare for Arne Slot‘s first season in charge.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are giving serious thought to signing Mamardashvili from Valencia, though no final decision has been made. The idea would involve signing the Georgian goalkeeper and then loaning him out. Romano shared on X.com: “Liverpool are seriously considering the opportunity to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili for a fee in excess of €30m from Valencia and then loan him out. No final decision yet, but talks continue; it’s up to Liverpool. The Georgian GK is keen on a move to #LFC, as reported by @relevo.”

Mamardashvili impressed for Georgia during Euro 2024, which has sparked interest in his services. While he has been linked with a move away from Valencia in the past, nothing has materialized until now. Liverpool, on the other hand, finds themselves in a situation where they must start planning for life after Alisson, who has just one year left on his contract. Though they have Caoimhin Kelleher as a backup, it’s unlikely the 25-year-old would be promoted to first-choice goalkeeper.
