Liverpool Eyeing Squad Improvements, Says Arne Slot – Dodges Zubimendi Question

Arne Slot has confirmed that Liverpool are actively seeking to “strengthen the squad” but remained tight-lipped when asked about their interest in Martin Zubimendi.

Despite being the only Premier League club yet to make a signing this summer, Slot suggested that could change soon. Following Liverpool’s recent double-header of friendlies, Slot remarked, “At a club like ours, we’re always looking for opportunities to strengthen the squad. But after watching both games today, it’s clear that adding new players isn’t easy.”

Slot emphasized that he inherited a strong team, adding, “If we find a way to improve the squad and think it’s possible, we’ll do it.”

Liverpool’s Key Player Issues Statement That May Alarm Fans

Liverpool secured a 4-1 victory against Sevilla and held Las Palmas to a 0-0 draw at Anfield, with Slot rotating 30 players across the two matches. One area the club is keen to reinforce is defensive midfield, with Real Sociedad’s Zubimendi reportedly on their radar. When asked about Liverpool’s pursuit of the Spaniard, Slot chuckled before responding, “You can mention any name you want, of course.”

Should Liverpool decide to move forward with a deal for Zubimendi, they would need to trigger his £51.5 million buyout clause.

Slot was more forthcoming about Fabio Carvalho’s situation. Reports on Saturday indicated that Carvalho has agreed to a transfer to Brentford for up to £27.5 million, including add-ons. Slot confirmed the development, stating, “As far as I’ve been told, there’s an agreement in place, but I haven’t spoken directly with the club as I was fully focused on today’s games. I’m not entirely sure of his status, but that’s why he wasn’t selected today.”

Meanwhile, Ben Doak, who has been linked with a potential move away, played the entire match against Las Palmas. On the other hand, Sepp van den Berg was noticeably absent, with Nat Phillips chosen as the starting centre-back in the second match.

With just six days remaining before their Premier League opener against Ipswich next Saturday, Liverpool is expected to be busy off the pitch in the coming days.
