Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly eyeing Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier as a potential recruit, given the uncertain future of Darwin Nunez at Anfield.
According to Sport Bild, via Sport Witness, the Reds’ new boss is keen to secure Beier’s services this summer, following Nunez’s underwhelming season.
Beier, who had an impressive start to the Bundesliga season with six goals in his first eight games, recently extended his contract with Hoffenheim until 2027. The 21-year-old’s contract includes a €32.5 million release clause, making him an attractive target for several clubs.
In addition to Liverpool, Manchester United, Brentford, and Nottingham Forest are also reportedly interested in Beier. Liverpool scouts have been particularly impressed with his ability to drop deep into midfield and his strong progressive passing metrics.
Comparisons have been made between Beier and Roberto Firmino, who made a similar move from Hoffenheim to Liverpool in 2015. However, Beier stands out with his exceptional pace and versatility, being able to play both centrally and on the wings.
With Nunez’s poor form costing Liverpool crucial points last season, Slot is determined to bolster the attacking options. Beier’s recent performances earned him a call-up to the German national team by head coach Julian Nagelsmann, and he made his debut in a friendly against Ukraine.
A move to the Premier League seems imminent for Beier, with several top clubs vying for his signature.
