Melkamu Frauendorf, one of the promising talents introduced by Jurgen Klopp, has swiftly secured a new opportunity in his native Germany following his release from Liverpool. The 20-year-old midfielder has signed with 2.Bundesliga side Hannover 96, marking a return to German football after his stint with Liverpool’s academy.

Frauendorf, who initially joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in 2020, spent most of his time developing in the academy setup. His appearances for Liverpool’s senior team were limited to two games, one of which was a starting role against Derby County in the Carabao Cup. Unfortunately, his progress last season was hampered by injuries, leading to his release this summer.

Despite these setbacks, Frauendorf quickly found a new home at Hannover 96. He will begin his journey with the club’s under-23 squad, which has recently been promoted to the 3rd division, offering a solid platform for young players to transition into senior football.

Hannover’s sporting director, Marcus Mann, highlighted the strategic move: “With the U23s’ promotion to the 3rd division, we were able to present a clear pathway for Melkamu to integrate into men’s football in Germany. If he performs well, he will have the opportunity to step up to the first team, just like anyone else in our system.”

Frauendorf, who has represented Germany at youth levels, is known for his speed and relentless work ethic—traits he consistently exhibited during his time at Liverpool. His return to Germany and commitment to making an impact were evident in his statement: “I am very happy about the chance to be back in Germany and to have the opportunity to play in the 3rd division at Hannover 96. The prospects here, with first-class conditions in the academy and the unique situation of the U23s in the 3rd division, are exceptional compared to other clubs.”

The midfielder’s signing is part of a broader trend of Liverpool academy graduates seeking new challenges this summer, with Frauendorf being one of eight released players, including Adam Lewis and Mateusz Musialowski. As Frauendorf embarks on this new chapter with Hannover 96, he aims to leverage this opportunity to showcase his talents and advance his football career in Germany.
