Reports from Spain indicate that Liverpool have initiated efforts to secure one of Europe’s most sought-after young talents.

According to the print edition of AS, Liverpool has made a ‘proposal’ to acquire Leny Yoro from Lille. The 18-year-old centre-back has also reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Yoro, however, is said to favor a move to Real Madrid. Yet, the La Liga giants might face challenges meeting Lille’s valuation, which stands at €70m (£59m). Real Madrid is willing to offer only £34m, considerably less than Lille’s asking price.

This discrepancy could potentially benefit Liverpool, offering them a chance to outmanoeuvre Real Madrid, who have previously beaten the Reds to sign players like Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham. Real Madrid has also thwarted Liverpool’s ambitions in several Champions League campaigns.

The specifics of Liverpool’s offer remain undisclosed, leaving fans and analysts to speculate on Lille’s response. While convincing the club is one hurdle, persuading Yoro—who prefers a move to Real Madrid—poses another challenge. Nevertheless, Liverpool might persist in their pursuit of the French starlet.

Described by The Athletic’s Anantaajith Raghuraman as a classic defender, Yoro has been praised by teammate Remy Cabella for his vast potential. At Liverpool, Yoro might benefit from the patience of the fan base, allowing him to gradually integrate into the team, a luxury he may not find at Real Madrid. This nurturing environment could be a significant advantage for Liverpool in this highly competitive transfer saga.
