Liverpool Mulling Over £51m Offer for Winger in Final Stages of Transfer Window

Liverpool fans have been eagerly awaiting their first summer signing, and it seems that moment could be near. The club recently came close to securing a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but the move fell through at the last minute when the player opted against joining Anfield.

Despite being satisfied with his current squad, new manager Arne Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp this summer, is looking to strengthen the team as he navigates a period of transition. Slot’s tenure began on a high note, with Liverpool kicking off their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Ipswich Town, thanks to goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah.

Joe Gomez Reveals His Intentions Regarding Liverpool Stay

With the new season underway, Liverpool’s focus has shifted to the transfer market, where they are eyeing a surprise move for Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman. The 26-year-old Nigerian international has a history with Liverpool’s rivals Everton, where he played between 2017 and 2019. After struggling to make an impact at Goodison Park, Lookman moved to RB Leipzig in 2019 and later joined Atalanta in 2022, where he has enjoyed the best form of his career.

Liverpool is reportedly monitoring Lookman, considering him as an option to strengthen their attack. The winger missed Atalanta’s first match of the season due to uncertainty surrounding his future, with both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain showing interest in his services.

According to reports, Arsenal and Manchester City are also keeping tabs on Lookman, but it is Liverpool who appear to be most serious about making a move. Last season, Lookman scored 17 goals for Atalanta in all competitions, including a hat-trick in the Europa League final, where they triumphed over Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.

Italian outlet Calciomercato reports that Atalanta is expected to demand €60 million (£51 million) for Lookman. This fee is not expected to be a stumbling block for Liverpool, who are in a strong financial position after a quiet summer in the transfer market. Adding Lookman to their ranks would provide much-needed depth and quality to Slot’s attacking options as the club aims to build on their strong start to the season.
