Mohamed Salah is staying at Liverpool for now, but the club is already preparing for a future without him. The Egyptian forward, who has been crucial in Liverpool’s Premier League and Champions League victories under former manager Jurgen Klopp, is entering the final year of his contract, and his long-term future at Anfield remains uncertain.
In light of this uncertainty, Liverpool is planning for a potential replacement. According to the Japanese publication Sports Nippon, Real Sociedad’s right-winger Takefusa Kubo is on Liverpool’s radar. Kubo, a promising talent who moved from Real Madrid to Real Sociedad in 2022, has caught the eye with his impressive performances in La Liga.
Although rumours suggested that Kubo might have been Jurgen Klopp’s final signing for Liverpool, the Japanese international has continued to excel with Real Sociedad. At just 23 years old, Kubo has established himself as one of the top players in La Liga.
Liverpool is reportedly prepared to pay around €65 million for Kubo and offer him wages of £240,000 per week. This move clearly indicates that the Reds are planning for life after Salah, who might leave the club next summer.
Replacing Salah will be a formidable task for Liverpool. Kubo, a left-footed right-winger like Salah, is known for cutting inside to create and score goals. However, while Kubo has shown great potential, he would need to enhance his goal-scoring abilities to match Salah’s impact. Last season, Kubo scored seven goals in La Liga, a figure that falls short compared to Salah’s 24 goals for Liverpool.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Kubo underscores their proactive approach to squad planning, ensuring they remain competitive even if Salah departs.
