Liverpool has reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Federico Chiesa, pending international clearance.
The 26-year-old forward has completed his medical examination and agreed to a long-term contract with the Reds. He is now set to join Liverpool’s squad.
Chiesa, who has earned 51 caps for Italy and was a part of their Euro 2024 squad, arrives after spending four seasons with Juventus, where he made 131 appearances. Reflecting on his move, Chiesa told Liverpoolfc.com, “I’m thrilled to become a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes reached out and asked if I wanted to join, and then the coach followed up, I didn’t hesitate. I know the history of this club and its significance to the fans. I’m incredibly excited to get started.”
Chiesa’s journey began in Fiorentina’s youth academy, where he progressed through the ranks before making his senior debut at 18 against Juventus during the 2016-17 Serie A season. He went on to play 153 games for Fiorentina, scoring 34 goals, before moving to Juventus in October 2020 on an initial two-year loan, which became permanent in May 2022.
During his first season in Turin, Chiesa made a significant impact by scoring the winning goal in the 2021 Coppa Italia final against Atalanta. However, his progress was halted when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury midway through the following season, sidelining him for nearly 10 months.
Chiesa made a strong comeback, with his final season at Juventus being his most prolific in terms of league appearances, playing in 33 matches. He scored 10 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions and secured his second Coppa Italia winner’s medal.
On the international stage, Chiesa was a key figure in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, playing in all seven matches, scoring twice, and earning a spot in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament. This summer, he also featured in four games for Italy at Euro 2024.
Chiesa now embarks on the next chapter of his career at Anfield, becoming the second signing of the Arne Slot era, following Liverpool’s recent agreement to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for the 2025-26 season.
