Liverpool are reportedly close to finalizing a loan move for Stefan Bajcetic to RB Salzburg. The 19-year-old midfielder, while highly talented, might struggle to get the playing time he desires this season, as Liverpool’s new manager Arne Slot seems to favour a midfield trio of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch.
Slot sees Bajcetic as a promising future number six for the team, and it’s clear why he would want the young Spaniard to gain more experience elsewhere, even if it means spending the season away from Anfield. This move would allow Bajcetic to continue his development, with the hope that regular playing time at a club like Salzburg would accelerate his growth.
According to renowned transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool is actively working on a deal to send Bajcetic on loan to RB Salzburg. The move would reunite him with Pep Lijnders, who is now the head coach at the Austrian club. Lijnders previously worked as an assistant manager at Liverpool, and his connection to the player is expected to be a crucial factor in the decision.
However, Salzburg is not the only club interested in securing Bajcetic’s services. Several La Liga teams are also keen on the young midfielder. Despite this competition, Lijnders’ influence and the strong relationship he has with Bajcetic are likely to sway the player towards a move to the Red Bull Arena.
Since being promoted to Liverpool’s first team two years ago, Bajcetic has made 22 appearances across all competitions. He scored his first and only goal for the Reds during the 2022-23 Premier League season in a match against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
With three years remaining on his current contract, Bajcetic’s future at Liverpool looks promising, but for now, a season-long loan move to RB Salzburg seems to be the next step in his career. This would provide him with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and return to Liverpool as a more seasoned player.
