After accumulating experience with Liverpool’s U21s and travelling with the senior team, a significant shift might be on the horizon for a player who will turn 21 in September.
According to the Polish publication Meczyki, Liverpool has already declined a loan offer from the Portuguese club Vitoria SC. Journalist Tomasz Wlodarczyk reports that the bid was one of several and included an option to buy, which likely influenced Liverpool’s decision to reject it.
Despite this, there is still interest in the young goalkeeper, Mrozek, with a summer loan remaining a possibility. Two clubs from Poland’s top division, the Ekstraklasa, are in discussions with Liverpool regarding a potential loan agreement. These clubs are FKS Stal Mielec and MKS Cracovia, with Stal Mielec reportedly being closer to securing a deal.
Stal Mielec, which finished 11th last season, currently has Mateusz Kochalski, the Ekstraklasa’s Goalkeeper of the Year, as their primary goalkeeper. On the other hand, Cracovia, who ended the season in 13th place, has Sebastian Madejski as their first-choice goalkeeper and includes notable center-back Kamil Glik in their squad.
Liverpool may approach a loan deal with caution due to past experiences. Another Polish goalkeeper, Jakub Ojrzynski, had a challenging loan spell, first with Radomiak Radom, which ended prematurely in January due to limited playing time, and then with Den Bosch in the Netherlands, which also proved unproductive. Ojrzynski is now returning to Liverpool with an uncertain future.
Mrozek is highly regarded by Liverpool’s coaching staff, but his next move comes amidst significant changes in the club’s goalkeeping department. John Achterberg, the long-time head of goalkeeping, has left to join Al-Ettifaq after 15 years with Liverpool. His departure is a notable shift, given his extensive knowledge of both current and former goalkeepers at the club, as well as top talents worldwide.
In addition, assistant Jack Robinson has also exited, with Fabian Otte, a 33-year-old, stepping in as the new head of first-team goalkeeper coaching. Brazilian legend Claudio Taffarel remains part of the coaching staff, but the ongoing transitions add a layer of uncertainty to Mrozek’s decision regarding his future at Liverpool.
