Liverpool Star on Slot’s Tactics: “Love It or Leave Football!”

Tyler Morton has expressed his enthusiasm for Arne Slot’s style at Liverpool, capturing the sentiment of his teammates perfectly: “If you don’t love it, you shouldn’t be a footballer!”

Having returned to Liverpool’s first-team squad for pre-season after a loan spell at Hull, Morton has been a regular feature so far. Despite speculation about his future with interest from clubs like RB Leipzig and Atalanta, Morton’s integration with the senior team is notable.

Speaking to LFCTV following Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Arsenal in Philadelphia, Morton shared his thoughts on Slot’s impact as the new head coach. “The style the gaffer is implementing is working, and I think it worked today,” the 21-year-old said. “You can see it’s starting to click already, and that’s a big compliment to the management team.”

Morton praised Slot’s love for Total Football, a style that resonates well with many players. “He loves Total Football. He’s come in, and it’s a style a lot of players love. If you don’t love the style he plays, you shouldn’t be a footballer really! It’s Total Football, and it’s every midfielder’s dream. You could see it today in the triangles that were played; he’s big on triangles, and they were working today.”

Under Slot, there has been a significant shift in focus towards the midfield. Curtis Jones shed light on this in a press conference before Liverpool’s win over Real Betis, stating, “The centre-mids were always lads who were runners and more disciplined. The principles are the same, but I feel that now the centre-mids are going to be more the heart of the team.”

Fabio Carvalho echoed these sentiments after the Arsenal match, noting changes in style post-Jurgen Klopp. “I’d probably say playing more through the midfield. Players like Curtis, Harvey, and Szobo – we’ve got the players to do so,” he told LFCTV. “Playing through them and getting me, Mo, and the players higher up like Jots on the ball as well. Being able to play through the thirds is what we want to do and what the manager wants to be our identity.”

Slot’s philosophy of “kill them with passes” aligns perfectly with his midfielders’ preferences, and Liverpool boasts a wealth of talent in that area. Whether Morton secures a spot in this talented midfield group for the season is yet to be determined, with the club valuing him at £20 million.
