Liverpool Targets Bundesliga Star with Attractive Release Clause in Potential Transfer Deal

Liverpool have reportedly expressed interest in Stuttgart’s defender and captain, Waldemar

Liverpool have reportedly expressed interest in Stuttgart’s defender and captain, Waldemar Anton, who has a release clause set at a mere €22.5 million.

The German international, adept at playing both centre-back and right-back, delivered an impressive season in the Bundesliga, contributing significantly to Stuttgart’s second-place finish and their qualification for the Champions League.

Anton’s standout performances seem to have attracted attention from bigger clubs this summer, with Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Dortmund all making inquiries, as reported by journalist Felix Arnold on X (formerly Twitter) below…

Anton’s Transfer: A Strategic Fit for Liverpool

Anton appears to be a promising addition for Liverpool. At 27, he brings versatility and experience, having captained Stuttgart. His leadership skills would undoubtedly be an asset to the squad.

Currently, Liverpool’s transfer activity is relatively quiet. However, new manager Arne Slot is likely looking to reshape the squad inherited from Jurgen Klopp. Despite an unremarkable season finish, Liverpool had moments of brilliance, such as winning the Carabao Cup and contending for other major titles like the Premier League and the Europa League.

There’s clear potential within Liverpool’s squad. Introducing one or two seasoned players like Anton could be key to maintaining composure in critical matches.

Moreover, Anton’s ability to play both centre-back and right-back could provide much-needed respite for Virgil van Dijk next season. It also opens up the possibility for Trent Alexander-Arnold to occasionally shift into a midfield role, should Slot opt to experiment with different tactical setups and right-back options.
