Liverpool to Initiate Contract Talks with Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold in the Near Future

Liverpool has yet to initiate contract negotiations with three of their key players: Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

This situation has drawn widespread criticism, as all three are now in the final year of their contracts. Many observers believe that Liverpool has allowed these crucial matters to slip during a period of significant changes behind the scenes.

The task of resolving this issue now falls to the club’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes. Currently, it appears that Liverpool could potentially lose three of their most vital players on free transfers next summer if no agreements are reached soon.

However, there is an expectation that talks with Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold’s representatives will begin soon, likely now that the summer transfer window has closed. Reports from the Press Association suggest that Hughes’ attention was previously focused on strengthening and trimming the squad in line with the vision of new head coach Arne Slot. Now, with the transfer window behind him, Hughes can prioritize these critical contract discussions.

These three players aren’t the only ones with contracts that need attention. Backup goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros’ deal also runs out in 2025, while Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson, and Caoimhin Kelleher are under contract until 2026. Talks with Konate’s agent are already reported to be underway.

Nevertheless, the immediate focus is on securing new deals for Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold. With the season’s first international break now in progress, Liverpool will aim to make swift progress in these negotiations.
