Paris Saint-Germain’s midfielder, Manuel Ugarte, is on the verge of departing the club this summer. At 23, the defensive midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs, notably Liverpool. According to Ugarte’s agent, Jorge Chijane, the player has multiple options and is almost certain to leave PSG.
Chijane commented (via Mirror): “Liverpool? There is a lot of talk but it is not the only club, there are others. There are many possibilities on the table. It’s almost certain that he won’t stay, it’s sure he’ll leave. I believe the situation will be resolved.”
Liverpool, in particular, could benefit from Ugarte’s defensive capabilities. His presence would provide much-needed solidity at the back, allowing midfielders like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai more freedom to advance. Mac Allister has had to play in a deeper role this past season, but his strength lies in a more advanced position. Therefore, securing a quality defensive midfielder should be a priority for Liverpool before the new season begins.
While Liverpool currently have Wataru Endo, the Japanese international is in his 30s, prompting the need for long-term planning. The departure of Thiago Alcantara has left a gap in the midfield that needs to be filled, though Ugarte’s skill set is different.
