Liverpool Turns Down Recent Bid for Sepp van den Berg – Offer Insufficient to Meet Club’s Valuation

Liverpool have turned down PSV Eindhoven‘s latest bid for their centre-back Sepp van den Berg, as the club remains steadfast in their stance on a player they may choose to retain.

Van den Berg, who recently returned from a loan at Mainz, has drawn interest from various clubs in England, Germany, and the Netherlands. The 22-year-old is eager for regular game time under Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, and has made it clear that he would prefer to move on if he doesn’t get that opportunity. He also voiced concerns over Liverpool’s valuation of him, describing the £20 million price tag as “majorly high.”

PSV Eindhoven, the keenest of Van den Berg’s suitors, had their first bid rejected by Liverpool. According to Eindhovens Dagblad, the bid included an up-front fee of over €10 million (£8.4 million) and additional add-ons slightly exceeding €2 million (£1.7 million).

Despite this, Slot has not yet made a final decision regarding Van den Berg’s future. The Dutch centre-back has been a regular in pre-season matches, largely due to the absence of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez. Van den Berg is expected to start alongside Jarell Quansah in an upcoming friendly against Arsenal.

PSV is eager to secure a new centre-back quickly and is uncertain if they can afford to wait much longer for Van den Berg. However, any potential transfer may be delayed until the end of the summer, as Liverpool’s international players are not due back until the following week.

The Dutch transfer window remains open until September 2, two days longer than the Premier League’s, but PSV’s season begins earlier. They face Feyenoord in the Johan Cruijff Shield on August 4 and start their Eredivisie campaign against RKC Waalwijk on August 10, while Liverpool will still be in pre-season.

In related news, Liverpool has also turned down an £11.2 million offer for midfielder Wataru Endo, although his departure remains a possibility.
