Uruguay’s manager, Marcelo Bielsa, has called on Liverpool’s Arne Slot to maintain confidence in Darwin Nunez, despite the striker facing significant scrutiny. This summer, Nunez was the subject of transfer speculation due to concerns over his goal-scoring consistency. “Darwin is a player who doesn’t need any additional support,” Bielsa remarked during a press conference. “It’s essential to understand what it means to play for Liverpool, who his competitors are, and the nature of his scoring cycles—when he scores, why he stops scoring, and how he manages these periods given his status in the football world.”
Bielsa continued, “My primary concern is ensuring that he can perform his extraordinary ability to convert chances as frequently as possible. It’s not just about the goals themselves but about creating the right conditions for him to finish effectively. While he doesn’t need external support, providing him with ample opportunities to score is crucial.”
Nunez also expressed gratitude for the guidance of fellow Uruguayan and former Liverpool star Luis Suarez. “The support of your teammates is vital,” Nunez said. “In our national team, we have a fantastic group. If a player is struggling, figures like Luis Suarez are always there, offering advice and support.”
Reflecting on Suarez’s mentorship, Nunez added, “I often seek his counsel, discussing football and learning from his past experiences. His advice is always positive, and I try to apply it to improve my game.”
