Liverpool bids farewell to Pepijn Lijnders and Vitor Matos as they embark on new chapters in their coaching careers. Lijnders, the esteemed Dutchman, has been announced as the new head coach of FC Red Bull Salzburg, while Matos will join him as assistant coach after four-and-a-half years as elite development coach at Liverpool FC.
Expressing his excitement for the new challenge, Lijnders remarked, “I am very proud to become the new head coach of FC Red Bull Salzburg. This is a real privilege for me.” He emphasized his commitment to fostering an attacking style of play and nurturing a culture of passion and hunger for success within the team.
Matos, who has been an integral part of Liverpool’s coaching staff, expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to Salzburg’s growth in an ever-evolving football landscape.
Lijnders’ journey at Liverpool has been remarkable, starting as U16s coach at the Academy in 2014 before ascending to the role of first-team development coach under Brendan Rodgers and later serving as assistant manager under Jurgen Klopp. Matos, on the other hand, joined Liverpool from FC Porto in 2019 and played a crucial role in bridging the gap between the club’s Academy and senior team.
Both Lijnders and Matos have been instrumental in Liverpool’s success over the years, contributing to the team’s seven major honours, including the Premier League and Champions League titles.
As they prepare to depart alongside Klopp after Sunday’s season finale against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool acknowledges their immense contributions and wishes them the best in their future endeavors. The club expresses gratitude for their dedication and commitment, recognizing the impact they have had on the team’s journey.
