Recent reports from Japan suggested that talks were advanced and that Kubo was interested in the move. However, Aperribay dismissed these claims, emphasizing that Real Sociedad wants to keep the 23-year-old player.
Real Sociedad’s president, Jokin Aperribay, has denied any ongoing negotiations with Liverpool regarding the transfer of winger Takefusa Kubo.
“There are no issues and no negotiations with any club,” Aperribay told Mundo Deportivo. “While anything can happen in the market, Take is very happy at Real Sociedad, and we want him to stay with us forever.”
Currently, Real Sociedad is in Japan for a pre-season match against Gamba Osaka. Kubo has spent much of his life in Spain, starting with Barcelona’s La Masia academy at age ten. He had to leave Barcelona due to FIFA regulations but returned to Spain at 18 to join Real Madrid. Despite not playing a first-team game for Real Madrid, Kubo made a mark during loan spells at Mallorca, Villarreal, and Getafe. In 2022, he permanently moved to Real Sociedad, where he has excelled, scoring and assisting 30 goals in 85 appearances.
Given his impressive performance, it’s understandable why bigger European clubs might be interested in Kubo. However, Aperribay insists that no transfer discussions are happening at the moment.
Liverpool has also been linked to other wingers this summer as they look to strengthen their squad under new manager Arne Slot. One such player is Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon. Despite rumors, Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe is confident that the England international will remain with the club for the upcoming season.
