Reports Suggest Liverpool Are Targeting 23-Year-Old Premier League Talent Amid Plans for 2025 Roster

Liverpool appear to be approaching a critical point in their squad evolution, with the potential need to find replacements for several key members of their starting eleven.

The futures of star players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah remain uncertain, raising the possibility that Liverpool may soon look to the transfer market to rejuvenate these crucial positions.

Another player whose future at Anfield could be in doubt is Andy Robertson. The Scottish left-back, known for his tenacity and contributions over the years, has recently experienced a dip in form. As a result, Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, has shown an increasing preference for Kostas Tsimikas in the left-back role. Tsimikas has begun featuring more regularly, which could signify a potential shift in Liverpool’s defensive setup.

According to reports from Football Insider, Liverpool have kept a close watch on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ left-back, Rayan Ait-Nouri, as a potential replacement for Robertson. The Merseyside club has reportedly tracked the French-Algerian defender for some time and may be able to secure him at a reduced price should Wolves face relegation from the Premier League this season. Relegation could financially press Wolves into a position where accepting a cut-price deal for Ait-Nouri becomes necessary, making him a more affordable target for Liverpool.

Robertson has undoubtedly been a standout player during his years with Liverpool, playing a pivotal role in their Premier League and Champions League triumphs. Yet, it appears that his best days may be behind him, as the physical demands of high-intensity football begin to take their toll. As Liverpool eye the future, the club seems convinced that Ait-Nouri could be an ideal successor to Robertson, offering a blend of defensive capability and attacking flair that aligns well with their style of play. Known for his forward runs and offensive contributions, Ait-Nouri has already scored three goals and provided two assists this season, showcasing his ability to impact the game on both ends of the field.

A move to Liverpool would likely appeal to Ait-Nouri, as the young defender is thought to be open to departing Wolves if the club cannot maintain its Premier League status. A step down to the Championship seems unlikely for a player with his level of talent, and Liverpool could offer him the chance to play at the highest level while potentially competing for titles.

However, Ait-Nouri isn’t the only left-back linked with Liverpool; the Reds are reportedly also interested in Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez. The young Hungarian has enjoyed an impressive season under Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, and Liverpool may view him as another option to strengthen their left flank.

As Liverpool look to begin the 2024-25 season, the prospect of lining up without both Robertson and Alexander-Arnold is becoming more plausible. Bringing in players like Ait-Nouri or Kerkez could help the club transition smoothly and preserve the dynamic, attack-oriented approach that has characterized Liverpool’s game in recent years.

Liverpool are carefully planning for a future where several of their iconic players may no longer be in the squad. By targeting promising talents like Ait-Nouri, the Reds aim to secure a smooth succession for their defensive line, ensuring they remain competitive and continue to thrive in the Premier League and beyond.
