Robbie Fowler Urges Liverpool to Pursue Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Comparing Him to Sadio Mane

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has encouraged his former club to make a move for Newcastle United’s standout striker, Alexander Isak. Fowler sees similarities between the Swedish forward and former Reds star Sadio Mane, who was instrumental in Liverpool’s recent successes.

Isak had an outstanding 2023-24 season, netting 25 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle. Although Arsenal has shown interest in the 24-year-old, Fowler believes Liverpool should enter the race for his signature. Speaking to Crypto Casino LTD, Fowler also mentioned Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins as another excellent option for the Reds.

“There are two players I would genuinely like to see at the club: Ollie Watkins and Alexander Isak. I think Watkins has just signed a new deal, but I’ve got a lot of time for him and I think he is brilliant. Isak, for me, reminds me of Sadio Mané as well. I don’t want to put things in people’s heads, but I think he would be a good fit as well,” Fowler stated.

Liverpool has been missing the dynamism Mane brought to the team, forming a lethal trio with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah that helped secure both the Champions League and Premier League titles under Jurgen Klopp.

Regarding Salah, Fowler offered a critical yet hopeful perspective. He acknowledged that the Egyptian star hasn’t been at his best in the latter half of the 2023-24 season, partly due to a hamstring injury in January. Despite this, Salah still managed to score 25 goals and provide 14 assists across all competitions.

“You cannot argue about what Mo (Salah) has done for Liverpool over the years. As with every football club, there are ifs and buts, but we have to remember that he has been injured for pretty much the first time in his career here and that has played a large part in people’s opinions on his future,” Fowler noted.

Fowler emphasized the importance of retaining Salah, highlighting his world-class potential when fit. “For me, he has not played well since January, but he’s still scored goals. For me, you have got to keep him, but there will be a point where he has to go. But that is the same for a lot of the players at the club currently and that happens in football.”

He concluded with optimism, “Personally, I want him to stay and I want him to be successful because if he plays to his best then he is world class and he can help the club win trophies. If he can return to being the player that we know he can, it’s an easy decision.”

With these endorsements, Fowler has outlined a clear vision for Liverpool’s future, suggesting that the addition of Isak or Watkins, coupled with a resurgent Salah, could reinvigorate Klopp’s squad.
