Salah Determined to Sign New Liverpool Contract, Wages Not a Key Factor

Mohamed Salah is reportedly eager to sign a new contract with Liverpool, with no interest in a move to Saudi Arabia.

Despite speculation, financial factors are not the main consideration for the Egyptian forward. Salah’s contract situation has been a talking point recently, especially after his comments following Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United, where he revealed that no discussions about an extension had taken place.

With his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, Salah’s future has sparked concerns among fans. His standout performance at Old Trafford, where he scored once and provided two assists, was a timely reminder of his importance to the team.

While some supporters are frustrated by the lack of contract talks, this delay can be attributed to the club’s focus on summer transfers and the changes happening off the field. There had also been speculation that Salah could be eyeing a lucrative free transfer to the Saudi Pro League at the end of his contract.

However, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst, sources close to Salah have revealed that the 32-year-old is “desperate” to commit his future to Liverpool. Salah is solely focused on staying at Anfield, and has considered the example of his former teammate Sadio Mane, whose move to Saudi Arabia did not pan out as expected.

Salah’s current earnings include a basic salary of £350,000 per week at Liverpool, along with various endorsements that bring his total income to around £1 million per week. Yet, it is believed that money “won’t be the deciding factor” in his next career move, which could help when negotiating a new deal with Liverpool.

Given his age—he will turn 33 next summer—the club might hesitate to offer a significant pay raise, though Salah’s fitness and performance levels remain exceptional.

It’s well known that Salah is a rare athlete who continues to break records, both on the pitch and during training sessions. His fitness levels have been praised, particularly in pre-season tests under new head coach Arne Slot.

In an interview after the win over Manchester United, Salah spoke about feeling like he was out of his “comfort zone” again after spending seven years under Jurgen Klopp.

His desire to stay at Liverpool is also influenced by his family’s happiness in the area, with his daughter being deeply rooted in the local community, which further fuels his determination to remain at the club.
