Salah speaks out on comparisons as Liverpool eyes Omar Marmoush

Liverpool is reportedly eyeing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush as a potential transfer target for 2025, with a deal that could be valued at up to £50 million.

The 25-year-old Egyptian forward has been making waves in Germany and on the international stage, where he has played alongside Liverpool star Mohamed Salah. However, Salah has made it clear that he wants to steer away from comparisons between the two players, believing such parallels could hinder Marmoush’s development.

In a recent appearance at a book fair in the UAE, Salah addressed the growing tendency to label Marmoush as his successor. Speaking to the Arabic media outlet winwin, Salah emphasized the importance of letting Marmoush carve out his own path.

“There aren’t many players from Egypt or the Arab world who have gone to Europe and succeeded,” Salah remarked. “Marmoush is one of those players, and I think he has immense potential. He’s a key player for his club and the national team.”

Salah went on to stress the negative impact of constant comparisons.

“I want people to stop comparing him to me or saying he’s the new Salah,” he continued. “It’s not fair to place such expectations on him. That kind of pressure won’t help him grow as a player. Instead, let him enjoy his journey and find his own identity. Comparisons only make things harder for him and don’t serve any purpose.”

Marmoush has indeed been making a name for himself. Capable of playing on either wing, his preferred position is as a central striker. Since joining Eintracht Frankfurt, he has been prolific, scoring 31 goals and providing 16 assists in just 57 appearances. His pace, versatility, and work ethic have made him a standout performer, and his contributions have drawn attention from top clubs like Liverpool.

For Liverpool, Marmoush could bring a fresh dynamic to their attacking options. While some speculate he might eventually replace Salah, his skill set suggests he’d be more suited to a No. 9 role under the style of play favored by Arne Slot, Liverpool’s potential managerial target. Marmoush’s ability to lead the line and contribute in multiple attacking roles makes him a versatile asset.

During his visit to the book fair, Salah also opened up about his personal life and passions. He shared his love for reading and hinted at a potential new venture—writing his autobiography. Salah reflected on achieving his dreams and the journey that brought him to where he is today.

The event highlighted Salah’s thoughtful approach not only to his career but also to how he mentors younger players like Marmoush. His advice to let Marmoush flourish without the burden of comparisons is sound. With his talent and determination, Marmoush has the potential to make his own mark in European football and beyond.
