Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed his indifference about his playing position for England after their 3-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monda
Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed his indifference about his playing position for England after their 3-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday night.
The Three Lions secured a comfortable win at St James’ Park with a strong second-half performance. Goals from Cole Palmer, Alexander-Arnold, and Harry Kane sealed the victory.
The 25-year-old Alexander-Arnold scored the standout goal of the night, executing a cushioned volley into the far corner after a superb pass from substitute Jack Grealish.
Alexander-Arnold indifferent to playing position
England manager Gareth Southgate made several changes to the lineup, giving opportunities to players like Palmer, Eberechi Eze, Lewis Dunk, and Marc Guehi, all of whom started.
Alexander-Arnold began the match in central midfield alongside Conor Gallagher before later shifting to his more familiar right-back role.
The debate over Alexander-Arnold’s best position has been ongoing, but he made it clear after the game that he doesn’t mind where he plays.
“I’ve spoken with the manager and that might be where he envisions me,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“For me, it doesn’t matter where I play. I just want to get as much game time as possible over the summer.”
Alexander-Arnold saw the match as a positive step for England, providing a solid foundation for future games.
“It was a good night, a solid foundation to build on,” he said.
“Having not played for two weeks, we were slow to start, but we found our rhythm in the second half. We made the necessary adjustments and broke through their lines, so there are plenty of positives to take from this game.
“I love playing football and was excited to get out there. I’ve been eager to play for my country.”
With 24 caps and three goals to his name, the Liverpool star’s international appearances seem relatively few for a player of his caliber. Nonetheless, he is expected to be part of Southgate’s final 26-man squad, where his passing ability and versatility could prove invaluable to England’s success.
