Trent Alexander-Arnold has recently been linked with a potential bid to buy French football club Nantes, with reports suggesting the Liverpool right-back is offering £84 million.
According to a report from French newspaper L’Equipe, Alexander-Arnold is leading an investment group that includes his father, Michael Arnold, to take over the Ligue 1 side.
The proposed deal is said to involve an initial package valued at €100 million (£84m), with €80 million (£67m) to be paid upfront. The report also indicates that Alexander-Arnold had previously shown interest in acquiring Saint-Etienne or Le Havre earlier this year.
This has sparked rumors about the 25-year-old’s plans to expand his investment portfolio, especially since he was part of a group that invested in the Alpine Formula 1 team last year. The news has led to widespread speculation regarding Alexander-Arnold’s ambitions beyond football.
However, sources close to the Liverpool vice-captain have denied these claims. According to the Liverpool Echo, insiders have stated that there is “no truth at all” to the reports linking Alexander-Arnold to a bid for Nantes. It’s worth noting that there hasn’t been any prior indication that he or his family is considering entering club ownership.
Despite these denials, the situation remains somewhat ambiguous. L’Equipe reported that Nantes’ current owner, Waldemar Kita, was reportedly “furious” about the supposed meetings being leaked to the media, leaving room for speculation.
Although Alexander-Arnold and his family haven’t officially pursued club ownership, they do have significant involvement in the sports industry. Trent’s brother, Tyler Alexander-Arnold, serves as the director of PLG, a sports agency that represents several prominent players.
PLG’s client list includes Trent Alexander-Arnold, as well as other notable footballers such as Andy Robertson, Jarrod Bowen, Jordan Henderson, and Calvin Ramsay. Several Liverpool academy players, like Oakley Cannonier and Josh Davidson, are also represented by the agency. This connection strengthens the ties between Liverpool FC and PLG, with negotiations for a new contract for Alexander-Arnold expected to take place in the near future.
While the rumours of a bid for Nantes have been denied, the Alexander-Arnold family’s broader influence in the world of sports continues to grow. Whether or not these ownership rumours materialize, it’s clear that Trent’s interests extend beyond the pitch.
