(VIDEO) Family of Liverpool player entangled in chaos at Copa América final stadium

The 2024 Copa América final between Argentina and Colombia experienced a significant delay of over 75 minutes on Sunday due to a security breach. Initially scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, the match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL, eventually kicked off at 9:22 p.m.

The delay was caused by fans breaking through one of the main entry gates. Social media videos showed chaotic scenes of fans storming the gates, with some being tackled or apprehended by police and security personnel.

The breach also had personal consequences for Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister. His family faced difficulties entering the stadium, prompting Mac Allister to leave the dressing room before the match to assist them. Mac Allister’s mother, Silvina, recounted their ordeal to TyC Sports.

“Alexis had to come out to help us because he was worried and couldn’t focus,” Silvina explained. “I even thought the game might be called off because the players were dealing with these issues, and under such conditions, playing seemed impossible. Alexis called us while we were on camera waiting to get in, and he said he would stay at the west door until we were inside.”
