Trent Alexander-Arnold recently shared details of a heartfelt conversation he had with a fellow England teammate during the September international break.
The Liverpool vice-captain, whose contract with the club is now in its final nine months, has been the subject of ongoing speculation regarding a potential move to Real Madrid.
In an interview with ITV‘s Gabriel Clarke ahead of England’s upcoming game against Greece, the 26-year-old opened up about his aspirations and reflections on his career. He emphasized the importance of having no regrets when he eventually retires, focusing on effort over accolades.
Reflecting on a recent conversation with teammate Eberechi Eze, Trent admitted: “We were on the coach heading to the airport for the Ireland game, and I told him there’s a real possibility that I may never win another trophy in my career. But there’s also a chance I could win many more.
” He added that what ultimately matters is the effort put into the game, not just the silverware or personal stats: “When you retire, you’ll either feel regret or satisfaction, but that can’t be based solely on trophies or numbers. It’s about knowing you gave everything you had from start to finish.”
Trent further explained that, for him, success lies in striving to improve every day and giving his all to help his team win.
“As long as I can look back and say that I gave my best, worked hard every day, and lived up to the potential people saw in me, I’ll be satisfied,” he concluded.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, it’s clear Trent is still driven to achieve more at both the club and international levels. Having already won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and more with Liverpool, he’s eager to add to that list.
Real Madrid, a club long-rumored to be interested in signing him, denied him European glory twice during his time at Liverpool. However, with Liverpool still competing at the highest levels, the chance to win more titles at Anfield remains very much alive. Trent’s comments suggest that his focus is on making the most of every opportunity, wherever his future lies.
