(VIDEO) Liverpool’s New Goalkeeping Coach Introduces Innovative Techniques in Pre-Season, Featuring a New Talent

Liverpool’s new goalkeeping coach introduced some unique props during training as a fresh face joined the squad on the eighth day of pre-season.

Arne Slot supervised a 26-man squad on Friday, where the sight of jackets and long pants reflected the typical ‘summer’ weather in the UK. Slot and his team have likely been briefed about the quirks of English weather.

The training session followed the usual schedule, starting with breakfast and gym work before moving to the outdoor pitches for conditioning and ball drills. Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo participated with the group, and for the first time this summer, 17-year-old goalkeeper Kornel Misciur was present. Caoimhin Kelleher was absent from the session, though there’s no cause for concern yet.

Fabian Otte, who cut his holiday short to join the team, led the goalkeeping group alongside under-21s coach Mark Morris. Otte introduced some interesting tools: glasses and ear defenders. The glasses, according to Otte, limit peripheral vision, requiring goalkeepers to turn their heads more, while the headphones added another layer of sensory training. Fabian Mrozek wore the glasses, and Marcelo Pitaluga used the headphones, keeping training fresh and engaging.

Kelleher commented to LFCTV: “Fabian’s arrival is great. He looks really good and full of energy. He’s bringing new ideas, which is exciting for us goalkeepers. It’s new and exciting, and I’m looking forward to it.”
