Liverpool stars Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz recently joined forces with promising young talents Trey Nyoni and Kieran Morrison for a series of technical challenges in an Adidas Football Clinic.
The session left the seasoned players thoroughly impressed with their younger teammates’ skills.
Trey Nyoni, who only turned 17 in late June, is set to become a regular in the first-team squad under manager Arne Slot. Kieran Morrison, also 17, is equally promising, with the club having high hopes for his future as well. Their inclusion in the shoot alongside Nunez, Diaz, and Julian Alvarez highlighted their potential.
During one of the challenges, the players were tasked with hitting both goalposts and the crossbar as quickly as possible, within 10 attempts, from the edge of the penalty area. Diaz couldn’t complete the challenge, while both Alvarez and Nunez managed to succeed on their 10th attempt—no small feat considering Nunez’s infamous tendency to hit the woodwork last season.
Then came Nyoni’s turn. He struck one post on his second attempt, the crossbar on his third, and the other post on his fourth—displaying remarkable precision. His performance left Diaz in awe, who cheered, “What a technique, stop it, my brother!” as he and Nunez celebrated the young midfielder’s success. “He’s done it!” Diaz exclaimed.
But it was Morrison who truly stole the show. The Northern Irishman hit the post on his very first try, then found the crossbar on his second, hit the top-corner stanchion with his third, and struck the post again with his fourth. Diaz couldn’t help but praise the youngster, saying, “Bro, you have more technical ability than us, no?”
While Morrison hasn’t yet advanced as far as Nyoni, he is expected to make a permanent move to Liverpool’s U21s squad this season. The club is taking a measured approach with his development, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the attacking midfielder involved in first-team training soon, especially after already working under Slot during pre-season.
In the video for adidas Football Clinic, Nyoni and Morrison also had the chance to sit down with Diaz, Nunez, and Alvarez for a chat about developing as young players. When asked what advice he would give his younger self, Nunez shared, “Arrive on time and be the last to leave. Always listen to advice from the captain, players, and coach.”
Reflecting on his own experience, Nunez added, “I had to train with the first team at 17, and honestly, my discipline was poor. But I had great role models and staff who helped me. I recommend always leading by example and giving your maximum effort to make it to the first team.”
