Luca Stephenson, a promising 20-year-old footballer, is on the move again, this time heading to Scotland for his second consecutive loan spell. After spending last season with League Two’s AFC Barrow, Stephenson is now set to challenge himself in the Scottish Premiership with Dundee United.
During pre-season, Stephenson made a significant impression by clocking 106 minutes on the pitch under Arne Slot‘s guidance. While he is naturally a midfielder, this summer saw him adapt to a full-back role, showcasing his versatility and readiness for new challenges.
Dundee United has secured Stephenson on a season-long loan, a move that will test his abilities and aid in his development as he seeks regular first-team football. This transfer places him alongside other young talents like Calvin Ramsay and Luke Chambers (both at Wigan Athletic), Lewis Koumas (Stoke City), and Fabian Mrozek (IF Brommapojkarna), who have also embarked on loan moves this summer.
Stephenson’s journey with Liverpool began in 2018 when he joined from Sunderland. Although he had limited exposure under Jurgen Klopp, this pre-season under Slot allowed him to step into the spotlight, featuring in four out of five friendlies. However, his next chapter will be written in Scotland, where he aims to make a significant impact in Dundee United’s first season back in the top flight.
8Under the management of Jim Goodwin, a former Aberdeen boss known for nurturing young talent, Stephenson will have the opportunity to grow and shine. Dundee United has started their 2024/25 campaign with two draws, earning two points from their first two games.
With the transfer window still open until the end of the month, more loan and permanent moves are anticipated from Liverpool’s camp. As for Stephenson, his focus will now be on making the most of his time with Dundee United.
